About Us « Back

Christ Lutheran Church began as a mission congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in the 1920's. Its purpose was to serve the people in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. It was originally called the Ardmore Lutheran Mission located in a rented storeroom on Sumner Avenue in Forest Hills. Christ Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran church later moved to a site on Atlantic Avenue. In 1949 two and a half acres of ground on Barclay Ave. was purchased for our present building. In 1989 an educational wing was added and the school moved into the new area. Since its incorporation in 1933, that mission and commitment has not changed. A traditional service is provided on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

Sunday school education is provided for children from aged 0 years through high school. A number of adult study groups meet throughout the week and on Sunday mornings which provide that extra fellowship on a more personal basis.

Christ Lutheran is serious about the church’s mandate to be a blessing to others. Areas of work include a prayer team, blind ministry, elder care, soup kitchen/clothing ministry, discretionary fund, and more.

The mission of Christ Lutheran Church is bringing lives together in Christ, through stability in God's Word and Sacraments and variety in education, fellowship, and service.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
